Would It Be Possible To Separate Daddy Gerbil With One Of His Pups Then Rejoin Them A Couple Of Weeks Later?
My gerbils had an unexpected litter 3 weeks ago. I want to get rid of the daddy asap. My neighbour is going to take the daddy away but would also like one of the pups (to share a cage). I obviously can’t give away one of the pups this early as i can’t sex them until five weeks. Could i give the daddy away tomorrow and then give them a pup when it is five weeks or would they just fight?

What is usually done is to wait 24 hours after the birth, then put the dad back with the mom. Male gerbils are excellent parents, and can help parent the babies. Leaving the mom alone will be very stressful on her, and she may not be able to handle it. (Waiting ensures that they won’t breed again).
When the baby gerbils are ready to be weaned, choose a male baby gerbil to go with the father.

No, keep the pups with the mother, im not a gerbil expert but i dont think they can leave their mother from weaning till 5 weeks.
