Would I Be Able To Get Another Gerbil?

I bought a gerbil in August of last year. He was alone in the cage at the pet store that I bought him at, but when I go back every now and then, there are at least two gerbils in stock.
I have also been researching gerbils lately, and it says that they like company. So now I’m wondering if it is possible for me to buy another gerbil.
My gerbil is a male, if it helps.

I have read up on this alot. I have 4 gerbils and wanted to switch them. what i did is google GERBILS SPLIT CAGE METHOD. what you would do is split the cage with wire or you can also by the acceries to split the cage at a pet store. make sure they can not escape and end up fighting. keep them in separate sides of the cage (an aquarium works best in my knowledge) then switch them to different sides at least everyday, that way they can get used to each others smell. do this for at least a week then try putting them together. when you do this be sure to wear gloves in case they do start fighting. i had that problem and they bite hard. sometimes it does not work, but from everything i have read, gerbils nead a companion for grooming reasons and more, so i say go for it. he will be alot happy. i googled that for you and here are 6 sites below for you to check out. good luck! watch if you get a female, they tend to breed alot, usually every 30-40 days.
It’s a great idea. Gerbils do indeed love the company of others and really don’t enjoy being alone. In some cases they get depressed and overweight when alone.
Lucky for you, if you purchase a young male gerbil he should be pretty easy to introduce to your current male, as this is the easiest pair to make. You do however still have to use the split cage method, which can be googled. You do this for about a week or so or until you notice that the gerbils seem to be interested in eachother and sleeping next to eachother.
Good luck!
depending im not a gerbil expert but if they love company another male gerbil would help him be happier, play and exersize when your gone, just make sure the new one is not agressive or territorial, its a great idea just be certian it is a male and you have enough space and food for him
Good Luck!

It’s great that you decided to get another gerbil! Gerbils lead more unhealthy lives without a buddy. You should a gerbil of the same gender. But do NOT just put him in. They will probably fight aggressively, perhaps to the death. You should use the split-cage method. Google it and you will learn how to use it.
well if you feel he would be happy with another gerbil around then i would do it but if you don’t want your male to reproduce i would get another male gerbil instead of a female
