I am looking for a cage for my Syrian hamster and they all seem so small. What cage do you have so that your ham can have a lot of room to play? Did you make one other than the rubbermaid tub ones? How?

Whatever you do, DON’T buy a Habitrail, Crittertrail or S.A.M. cage for your Syrian hamster!!! Those cages are way to small and only good for mice and dwarf hamsters!
What you could do is buy a fish tank, or if you want your hamster to have the ability to climb you should buy a Ferplast Mary. Those cages are spacey for you hamster and it can let your hamster climb in the bars! It’s the best cage for a Syrian (exept for a homemade cage)! Here is a picture of it:

She put in a dwarf hamster and you can see it’s HUGE!!!
It’s 80 by 50 centimetres (about 32 inch by 20 inch) and as it isn’t that high, the cage is safe for your hamster to climb in as he won’t injure himself when falling.
It’s a great cage.
P.S. when you get a cage for a Syrian hamster, don’t forget to buy a wheel with a diametre of atleast 18 centimetres (7,5 inch)
because Syrians are pretty big
Have fun with your hamster and good luck!!!
hamster cages are small because it makes the hamster feel more secure. mine never liked to be out of his cage! you can buy the kind that you can add the attachments to, like the tubes that lead into different compartments. they love the kinds with small hiding places.
w/e u get DONT GET A FISH TANK! fish tanks r for fish not hamsters. hamsters have been known to escape them
fish aquarium, 15 gallon size with a metal mesh top.
I use those habitrail/critter trail things. They all come with a built in bed for the hamster, a wheel, a water bottle and a food dish. Great starter kit. They have several different models. I got an all pink one on sale for about 19 dollars (usually when they come out with a new model, the previous new model goes on sale..not always, but this happens quite a bit in large pet stores). I decided I wanted my hamster to have more room so I bought some tubes (hamsters love tubes) and I also bought a different model critter trail and connected it to the pink one. So he has 2 cages that he can use now. They’re all part plastic (usually the top of the cage, the bottom of the cage, and the tubes) and part wire. This gives them that nice enclosed feeling, but also allows for ventilation (tanks and all plastic cages arent ventilated well enough). The cages I was talking about are pretty small so they dont take up a lot of room but you can buy a ton of add ons/tubes/ hide outs, etc.. If you have the money, the space, and the patience to take that all down and clean it every week, you can pretty much make a hamster paradise.
