My hamster loves the habitrail ovo cut he like his old bar cage too.
a rubbermaid container for me is the best cage for a hamsters. It’s easy to clean. And also, hamster will stink because they pee and poop a lot. So you have to clean your hamsters cage once a week. make sure you have beddings for your hamsters because this will really help a lot in minimizing the hamster’s smell. try searching the net for good types of beddings. I also keep some of my hamsters in an aquarium and they don’t stink at all. Just make sure that you clean their cage once a week or when the cage is dirty.
Well you should get a very roomy cage for it. The thing is with aquariums they don’t allow they hamster to chew on something since there teeth grow for there entire life. I also had difficulty choosing one since my hamsters would all ways escape, but then i got a cage made for a Guinea pig(has bars) it turns out my hamsters enjoy it and they don’t escape since then.
don’t use an aquarium bcuz it will stink
my friend has one and it stinks
try to get the rugular ones that have a wheel and tunnels so it can exercise
or you can make your own with grids
get the smallest ones
you can go to guineapigcages.com
it shows some samples
but dont buy the grinds from there
they are too big for hamsters
The type of cage you buy really depends on the type of hamster you’re planning to adopt.
I currently own a robo and she has a cage that is a combo of the plastic with tubes and wire. She’s small even for her kind and can’t squeez through. If you’re thinking about getting a small hamster, look for cages that are suitable for mice. When you search for a cage thats good for a hamster, usually it’s only good for the bigger kinds.
Bigger hamsters, Syrians for example, can make do in almost any cage. However, I found that the plastic cages with the tubes and all that can be too small. The hamster is too big to fit through the tubes and can’t access most of the cage. The best kind for them, in my opinion, is the all wire ones with the plastic base.
Smaller hamsters, like dwarfs and robos, need cages with bars they can’t squeeze through. Hamsters have an amazing ability to flatten their chubby bodies out
The one thing that stops me from having an aquarium for mine is the heat. I live in Southern CA, and while we do have AC, the house is empty most of the day and the AC is off. The aquariums hold in heat and can end up harming the hamster. I don’t want to chance it. It’s just not worth it in my opinion.
If you look at cages on Petsmart and Petco online, make sure you read the reviews of customers. Usually they’ll give you the advantages and disadvantages of the item and it really helps when trying to pick things out. Even if you don’t have one of those stores in your area, it’ll still help give you an idea.
Make a bin cage.
You get a big plastic, clear bin (tub) with a lid from target/ walmart. Then you cut most of the lid out and put hardwire cloth or even screening over it. Then you can drill a hole inside for the waterbottle nozzle thingy can go in or duck tape it to the inside.
Heres what it looks like: http://www.petwebsite.com/pics/bin23.jpghttp://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Art…http://www.krizka.net/wp-content/uploads…
The best part is that they can be really big and CHEEEAAPP!!!
And no, hamsters can’t chew through them. All of my hamsters have had bin cages.
Hey there…
The reason you see hamsters is aquariums is b/c they have an amazing ability to fit through even the smallest spaces. so either get an aquarium or a cage with thinly spiced bars.
