Hamster cage, hands down.
We had a 29 gallon aquarium and this was what I had to do at LEAST once a week;
-Turn off the filter so that I could drain the water down past the intake tube so that I could get enough water out. When you turn the filter off, the water backs out and leaves some nasty stuff behind.
-Take out the filter cartridge and rinse it out (change it every two weeks, which gets expensive).
-Remove the intake tube and scrub it out with a toothbrush to get the wonderful slime out of it.
-Scrub the ick off of the side of the aquarium using algae scrubbers or algae scrubbing pads.
-Then I got to use the gravel vac to suck up the gross stuff from the gravel. I ran the hose into a 5 gallon bucket that had to be emptied quite a bit and eventually started being a pain (literally).
-After you suck up stuff from the gravel, you have to dechlorinate the new water and make sure it’s the right temperature before adding it to the tank (leave at least 40% of the old, “dirty” tank water in the aquarium, don’t empty everything, it’s bad for the fish).
-Rearrange the decorations, turn the filter back on, prime it and you’re good to go.
The whole process used to take me around an hour to do thoroughly.
Our hamster cage however, only takes me around 15 minutes to clean.
I put the hamsters into their exercise balls, break apart the cage, dump out the old bedding, take everything into the bathtub (including food dishes, water bottles and any wheels) and clean it with just hot water. I use a mild shampoo solution once a month to clean the pieces. (make sure to rinse everything very well whenever you use soap) Then I dry all of the pieces, refill food dishes and water bottles and reassemble the cage, add new bedding and then add the hamsters.
well its not the tank you hve to worry abut hwen cleaning a fihs cage its also the water
Unplug all electrical appliances, like the filter, aeration, lights or water heater, that are connected to the fish tank.
Remove the hood or top fixture and wipe down with clean water and paper towels.
Scoop enough water from the fish tank with a cup or bowl into a separate holding container to temporarily house fish.
Gently transfer fish to the holding container using a fish net.
Scrub the inside tank walls with an algae scraper or pad.
Remove rocks, artificial plants or any decorations that are noticeably dirty. Rinse well in running tap water and let air dry.
Using a siphon, clean the gravel and vacuum away debris at the bottom of the tank. When siphoning, remove up to a maximum of 75 percent of the water depending on how dirty the water is. Typically, removing 50 percent of the water is sufficient to clean a fish tank.
Remove soiled filter media and discard in a garbage bag. Remove the filter unit and rinse off with clean water.
Use a bucket and fill up the tank with clean tap water.
Add chlorine or chloramine remover which is available from any major pet store. This will remove chemicals harmful to fish that are found in tap water.
Replace rocks, artificial plants and decorations in the tank. Plug back in all electrical appliances.
Replace filter and filter media. Turn on filter and allow to run for an hour or so. This will reduce stress to the fish and normalize the water temperature.
Wipe down the outside of tank with clean water and paper towels.
With a hasmter cage all you do is
Empty beedung out
washes cage / accessories
replace bedding and accessories food water
put hasmter back in
easy about 5/10 mins top
YOU pick wich one to do though?
Or you could simply get a hamster and put it in a aquarium. They’re are much easier to clean then those cages you have to keep taking apart and trying to get your hands in. Just don’t forget the toys or they get bored!
A fish aquarium is a pain, for all the reasons previously noted.
A hamster cage you just have to clean out the bedding hay stuff and clean his food dish. With a fish you also have to scrub the mould off the edge and if you have a filter you have to clean out the parts in that.I hope this helps
deff. a hamster cage . with an aquarium you have to put the fish in something else drain the tank spray everything down , oh and when you fill it up again you have to let it sit for awhile so you dont shock your fish
think a fish tank is easier to clean and u don’t have to clean it as often as a hamster cage
A hamster cage;)
