I read somewhere that you had to put different layers on the bedding for them. One website said put sand on the bottom, then shavings, then soft stuff or something like that. I have a 10 gallon tank, with one of those dome house things, a running wheel, a heavy small food dish, some wood sticks to chew on, and a litter box which I have yet to train him on. The bedding he is on is from Pet Supermarket, safe stuff, not cedar. It seems as though when I really push it and pack it down it is about an inch in thickness, otherwise it varies and can be more than that. Do I need to add other layers? My mom keeps the house here at 70 degrees (I’m 22 and in college but stay home in summer). I swear I saw him shivering, should I get him a heating pad? Anything else I’m missing?

i keep buying different types of bedding for my hamster cage because about 3 days after i clean it, it usually still smells, is there any bedding that reduces that odor?

I am sooo glad that u use Carefresh cuz lots of people use cedar and it is very bad for small animals! Ok i would clean the cage about once a week or more if it starts to smell!

I did not know that cedar chips were not good for gerbils, so what could I use instead?

I am going to get a hamster soon and i saw that the carefresh bedding is kind of expensive for me and I was wondering if I could use shredded paper. If so what are the safest?

I have a Gerbil and I know that Gerbils are from the desert so I was wondering if I could switch her cage bedding with sand.

My thirteen year old daughter just bought her first gerbil and we are not sure on the type of bedding to use. A website told us not to use anything fluffy, but the pet store gave us soft shredded paper. This paper feels almost like cotton. What is the best bedding we should use?

I bought a little hamster yesterday, but I’ve never had one before so I don’t know how much stuff to stick in his cage. At the pet store, they were completely burying themselves in the bedding. Should there be enough to allow him to do this?
