I Can’t Tell If The Rodent I Have Is An Albino Mouse Or An Albino Gerbil?

My friend bought a little albino rodent from PetCo, and told me it was a mouse. I show it to another friend, and he says it’s a gerbil. I went to Google Images and searched for “albino mouse” and “albino gerbil” and they are pretty damn similar. Is there any way to tell them apart?

its probably a mouse or they would of charged more
If the tail is hairless, it’s a mouse. If it has fur, it’s a gerbil. There are other differences, but that will be the easiest way to tell.
gerbils have huge back feet and kinda look like kangaroo rats.
The best way to tell you is going to be comparing them to pictures…
These are some pretty clear pictures where you can tell the difference…http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h…
(no matter what color, they will all have the same sature…)http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h…
They both have a rather distinct look, I guess that’s only if you know small animals…
If you could post a picture, it would really help…
I hope this helps…GOOD LUCK!!!!
Gerbils’ tails are a little thicker.
There are distinct differences. First the mouse. It has large ears, triangular head, little feet and a small muzzle (nose). The gerbil has small ears, broad head, big feet and a wide muzzle with a thicker tail than a mouse.
It would be usual for you to have an albino gerbil. PetCo should have been able to tell you the difference, however the people who work there are not experts (and neither am I). Unless you have a fat mouse, typically gerbils are slightly larger in their body, which is supported by their larger body parts aside from that. Additionally, white mouses are most common while white gerbils are not and I have never seen one.
I think you have a white mouse by the preponderance of the evidence, although it could be a possibility that you may have an albino gerbil. I doubt this is the case and I would suggest that you just take care of the little guy and not ponder his species, but love him and take care of him as you would no matter what he is.
