I just got a hamster, but he is afraid of me. How long before I can hold him and play with him?

He has to get used to you first. Try feeding him. Those little things can build up trust from him so he feels like you are not there to hurt him or anything.
Mine too..i bought it last year and when i touched it,it gave a frightened squeak but it is fine now
I had the same problem with a rabbit I had when I was about 8. I got him and I wanted to play with him all the time and he kept getting scared of me. I had to stop playing with him for a few weeks then after a while he got used to me and I got to play with him all the time.
