I recently inherited a hamster for my classroom and he came with a Hartz brand cage-the funky shaped one with the domed top. Can anyone tell me how to remove the wheel for cleaning? I have tried pulling, twisting, unscrewing-nothing works. I don’t want to break it. Help!!!!!

HARTZ is a horrible brand! their cages all suck & i speak from experience. i have the one u have & it’s supposed to just pop off. call the 800 # on the box and ask for advice. if it breaks they will replace it for free. they guarantee satisfaction—not the product, just your satisfaction, although personally i’m still not satisfied. they sent me 6 wheels and none work. is yours the round kind on top or the side one? (mine had no wheel at 1st, was a hamm rescue) the side ones u grip with both hands and kind of pop it out at an angle. hold inside edge & twist it toward the cage. unless he’s put food in it or something they don’t really need cleaning & they don’t come apart. btw this cage is way too small. u can buy a 2nd one and connect it to it from the side with a straight tube.
i dont know exactly what a hartz cage is but i did have a cage with a wheel attached to it. it didnt come off so i just put the cage and the wheel together into the sink. dont even bother taking it out.
i sprayed the wheel with disinfectant and let the whole thing just soak in the sink for a while ^^
if the cage doesnt fit, try the bathtub :]
