Does Anyone Know How The Oklahoma City Urban Legend About The Gerbil And The Mathis Brother Got Started?

I have heard about this all my life, does anyone here in Oklahoma know how this started? Jilted ex-lover? Some one got sold a bad sofa? Or did he really show up at the ER with a keyster’d gerbil?

The person who told me that he really showed up at an ER swore she knew some one who was working at that ER when it happened. This was some time in the 1980′s when I first heard about it. Supposedly one brother was gay as well. Let’s just say that the person who told me this was gullible and somewhat naive. You’re not the only one who has wondered if there is any truth behind the myth.
I don’t know of whom you speak, not familiar with this particular case. But there definitely was a whole subculture that sprang to life, no pun intended, especially among east coast gay men. It was as trendy as poppers were in an 80s dance club, but less likely to cause blackouts or land a guy in the ER}}}}}}}}}
I grew up in Yukon and I had to hear it all the time too…lol
Actually, a friend of mine is an ER nurse and you would not belieeeeeeve the stories she tells…
lol the Matress Brothers… I’ve also heard the same stories, but don’t know if it’s true.
my parents AND grandparents told me there was a peice on the news about it when it happened. and since i worked in the warehouse at mathis brothers not too long ago and having met the brothers i would say its highly possible from the way they act. i’ve seen someone who was joking around about this story and was fired the next day. i can only think of one reason they would take this story so seriously
