I am thinking of using a glass aquarium as a hamster cage. I plan to pu t bedding at the bottom, a wheel, a water bottle, chew toys, and a food dish. I heard that there are ventilation issues, but if i leave the top open, would that help?

it should be okay because the only thing i wouldve mentioned was the ventilation issue, but if you leave the top open i think its fine. i used to have a hamster, love em, they are so cute.
i think your better off with a cage. you dont want the poor thing to run out of air even though the top will be open… it is still possible.
maybe had a holed top. I have been told there is a thing if you go to pet smart to put on top of aquariums to make it a hamster cage
I once had a hamster and a cage but it got addicted to chewing on the lead based paint on the bars and it died
so i would go for the fish tank.
If you dont put a lid on, your hampster should be fine. Its not like hes not gonna get any air!
I’ve actually used an aquarium as a hamster cage. Instead of leaving the top completely open I would put one of those wire tops on it just to make sure it can’t get out and nothing else can get in. As long as the top is open there should be no problem with ventilation.
There are a few ventilation issues I have one but all you need is lots of holes on the cover if it is short do not leave the top open if it is tall and you don’t own a cat it would be fine just make sure you clean it every week.
When I Use to have a hamster that’s what I did, but if your planning to hold them at all I would get cage made for hamsters. Hamsters are territorial they don’t like have a hand chase them around and ruining their home, and also that may make them bite! Its easier to get the cage in the long run.
that might not be the best thing to do because it doesnt give the right oxygen the hamster needs but i see alot of people using them when i asked my petstore they said they dont recommend using those
A glass aquarium would work perfect! And you do need to put the lid on. They WILL try to escape! I’ve had 6 different hamsters but if you buy one off someone else, make sure it didn’t live in a hamster mansion! It would make it very sick to put it in a small cage after it’s use to a big cage. Also make sure every night to check to make sure the top won’t fall off. If your ham ham gets out you may want to check dark small places!
I’ve used one! They work just fine, the little guy won’t suffocate or anything
no its a fine idea lol i have a hamster in an aquarium and he is doing excilent it contains the smell alot to and keeps the bedding in
An aquarium is fine, but you need a lid. Hamsters are amazing escape artists.
There is no way it could die, except if you leave the tank uncleaned. Ammonia is the main issue with tanks, just keep it clean, and try to find a top for the aquarium, I have cheap, but sturdy, plastic tops from PetCo, with holes for tubes, and a door, completely secure, but well ventilated.
i have one it is good got it this sunday and my hammy love it and i have mesh top it is 10 gallon and i have a flip top and leave half open
It is thought that ventilaion issues were there, and I agree with that. I do have one of my hamsters in an aquarium and she is fine though. Cages are prefeable but aquariums will do fine. DO NOT LEAVE THE TOP OPEN! they do have screen tops at most pet stores. make sure you get a heavy one, hamsters will find a way out. My little hamster in the tank stands on the wheel base and pushes the top up! I had to sit the container of food on it.
You can’t leave the cage open, they will escape. You can buy tops that have wires. if you really need to keep the cage open, make sure that you don’t put anything in the corners because hamsters can easily climb out. that happened to my friend once.
cena is crazy.right sort of oxygen?no such thing miss.
PS
can hamsters jump (dwarf hamsters) jump up to 9 inches?
